The Crows Nest – a reusable, recycle shop operated by Sustainable Trust South Canterbury. The Trust was established 2002 with the aim of reducing Timaru landfill waste it provides a drop-off option for used items with life yet, that can be recycled and reused. As a Charitable Trust, all proceeds are funnelled towards other sustainable projects like our Eco Centre.

The Crows Nest provides a kerbside collection within Timaru for heavier items like beds, lounge suites, cabinets, TVs, that are unable to fit in your car. If you live in Geraldine, Pleasant Point or Temuka you can take those unwanted items to the refuse sites, free of charge.

Each year thousands of kilograms of waste have been successfully diverted from the landfill, in the year ending 30 June 2021 the team collected 10,610 kgs from Kerbside and 157,892kgs of inward goods from the Crows Nest Drop Off at Redruths Recovery Park. Additionally, 37,160kgs of E-Scrap (electronic waste) and 9830kgs of metal, all for recycling was collected.

This is a massive achievement, and it continues to grow.

By reducing waste going to landfill, we are helping to maintain the sustainability of our part of the world, achieving a win-win!
