Predator Free Timaru is led by a group of passionate locals on a mission to bring back the birds to Timaru by predator control in local backyards and green spaces. #predatorfree2050 The Eco Centre supports them with marketing and as a venue for their educational events.
We see the Scenic as a great place to start for predator control (however happy to support anyone around Timaru). People sporadically see Tui, Kereru and the like, but wouldn’t it be amazing to see them in your backyard and every time you visited the Scenic?
To make this happen we need your help. If you live near the Scenic we would love you to be an active trapper of the predators that are holding back the population growth of these native birds. It is very easy to create trap shy predators, especially rats, so we would really appreciate for you to come one of our events to learn about why and how to trap predators.
We will also show you how to collate your data, which will help us with funding in the future. We use Trap NZ and have a Predator Free Timaru Project where we collate the data.

- Sell traps – Rat Tunnels, Flipping Timmys, DOC 200
- Monitoring – bird counts, iNaturalist, chew cards, tracking tunnels
