Sold out Eco Talk – Winter Veggie Game Plan

Wow, what a night! There was a real buzz in the air at last night’s Eco Talk on growing winter vegetables. With a full house and a wealth of local growing knowledge – shared not only by our guest speakers but also through fantastic tips from the audience – it truly felt like a team effort.

A huge thank you to Inez Wilson and Kylee Galbraith for their inspiring and informative presentation. We’d also like to give a special thanks to Karen Gibbs (and Joy Silvia) from the Veggie Garden Collective for collaborating with us on this event.

For those keen to keep learning, one of Inez’s favourite resources is The Edible Backyard by Kath Irvine. She also recommends subscribing to Kath’s newsletter for helpful, seasonal planting advice and updates.

We’ve had lots of interest in further opportunities to learn about growing your own vegetables. We’re currently exploring ways we can continue to support this, but in the meantime, one of the best ways to learn is by getting involved. Volunteering with the Veggie Garden Collective at one of their six community gardens is a fantastic way to gain hands-on experience, learn from others, and enjoy great conversations while getting your hands dirty. You can find them on Facebook – or, if you’re not on social media, make sure you’re subscribed to our newsletter and we’ll share their updates there.

We’d also like to thank Sustainable South Canterbury Trust Chair Brian Gallagher for sharing an update on the Eco Centre’s market garden plans “Patiti Plant and Produce”. He shared the draft concept – exciting times ahead!

Thanks again to Kylee, Inez, Karen, Brian, and everyone who came along and contributed to making this Eco Talk our best one yet.
