News from Corrie the Enviro NZ Waste Minimisation Educator based at the Eco Centre.
Recently the children at Geraldine Preschool were treated to a surprise visit from the Enviro NZ truck!
The friendly driver, Michael, stopped by to pick up two red bins while the children watched in excitement. With a cheerful honk of the horn and a wave goodbye, he drove off — leaving behind two empty red bins and a group of very entertained and enthusiastic preschoolers.
Afterwards, everyone gathered on picnic blankets in the orchard space to talk with Corrie about where the rubbish from the red bins go. The children learned that it all ends up in a huge hole in the ground — and that’s not good for our beautiful Earth! So, how can we help? Corrie explained that the yellow recycling bin is our Earth’s superhero! Together, the kids explored which items can go into the yellow bin, also learning to spot the right numbers on plastics with the fun chant “1, 2, and high 5!”
A huge thank-you to Michael from Enviro NZ for taking time out of his busy day to swing by and make this special visit happen. You really made the kids’ day!
Thanks to the arrangements made by Neil, the bin auditor, Yasmin, the preschool teacher, Michael the truck driver, and Corrie, the waste minimisation educator.
