Beach Clean + iNaturalist

Beach Clean + iNaturalist

When

October 9, 2026
10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Event Type

The Eco Centre is busy over the holidays, so join us for a school holiday activity at the beach – although everyone is welcome.

📍 on the beach under the rail bridge – end of Scarborough Road

We’ll meet under the rail bridge at 10am, then explore the beach together. This stretch of coastline is a treasure trove of ocean biodiversity, but unfortunately, it also collects rubbish.

Together, let’s clean up the beach and get to know the amazing life along our coast!

🔎 Discover biodiversity with iNaturalist

If you have a phone, download the iNaturalist app and create an account before you arrive. You can use it to identify and record the plants, creatures and other species we discover through citizen science. https://www.inaturalist.org/

No phone? No problem! You’re welcome to observe our team using the app and learn alongside us.

🧤 What to bring:
• Your own rubbish bags and gloves
• A phone with iNaturalist (optional)
• Suitable clothing and footwear
• Water and sun protection

♻️ A little help with the rubbish

We kindly ask that you take the rubbish you collect with you and place it in the appropriate bin. For anything large, we’ll see if we can arrange disposal.

🚶 Finer details

• Meet us at the beach under the rail bridge from10am to avoid congestion at the road end.
• We’ll be parking at the end of Scarborough Road and heading north along the coastal track a short distance to the bridge and beach.
• Feel free to bike or walk from alternative directions. If driving, please take care when parking on the side of the road.
• Stay for as long as you like! On a nice morning, we’ll probably be there for around 2 hours, but you can come and go as you please.
Children need to be actively supervised by an accompanying adult.

• Look for Corrie, Alice and Briony in our green Eco Centre vests!

🌦️ Weather dependent: This activity will be cancelled if the weather isn’t kind to us. Any cancellation will be posted on our social media. If you’re not on social media, please give us a call on the morning to check whether the activity is going ahead.

Although this is a school holiday activity, everyone is welcome to join us!

Reach out if you have any questions. We can’t wait to see you at the beach!
